Arts & Crafts Fair
About thirty-eight years ago an enterprising member of the Southport Yacht Club offered the artists on the island of Southport the opportunity to display their works at a small show in our 200 year-old building. The numbers of artists and craft persons have increased considerably over the years as we have reached out to talented people in the region. We continue to display exceptional art and crafts not usually found at other events.
This year you may expect to see the art of some of the artists who have been with us for many years. Many of the paintings reflect the beauty of the region. Also, selections, chosen by the individual painters, will focus on the area with seascapes and boats in their natural settings. The art will be displayed on the Junior Building as the framed paintings have long outgrown the wall space in the club. Some of the artists have had some of their works made up into note cards and laser prints. We will have framed art for sale at competitive prices. There will also be matted and shrink wrapped originals which are more easily transported to your home where you may choose a frame to suit your décor. When you might be considering a special purchase, you can sit on the deck overlooking Cozy Harbor with its lovely view.
The actual club building will be transformed into a boutique featuring hand made sweaters, jackets, pottery, home décor and country crafts. We will have some unique jewelry not to be found in shops. Every year we have several new artisans who have recently come to our attention. Tucked away in a corner will be a treasures table with some special items which are best sold in a small setting.
The show will open to the public Saturday August 13th and Sunday August 14th from 10:00 to 4:00. Signs will direct you after you make the trip over the Southport Bridge towards Cozy Harbor.
